The Apprenticeship Award 2024:

JEROS is Denmark's best apprenticeship in the Region of Southern Denmark for the 3rd time!

September 18, 2024 - News

THANK YOU SO MUCH for the recognition! It is an honor to receive the 2024 Apprenticeship Award and thereby be allowed to adorn ourselves with the title of Denmark's Best Apprenticeship in the Region of Southern Denmark - for the 3rd time!

DI Fyn and the Apprenticeship Community of the Confederation of Danish Industry present the Apprenticeship Award to five companies in Denmark - one for each region - and in our case, it is physical proof that our commitment to training the skilled students and apprentices of the future has certainly not diminished.

What sets this year's award apart is the fact that the nomination came from an apprentice - the very individuals our apprenticeship program is designed to benefit. This unique aspect makes our win even more meaningful.

Read on to find out what our newly certified industrial technician, Ricki Rasmussen, thinks JEROS does to be a sound apprenticeship, promote professional development, and provide an excellent social environment ...

"Do you know of an apprenticeship that is doing well? And do you think the apprenticeship should be recognized for training apprentices and students?" says the DI Apprenticeship Community in early June 2024.

These questions caught the attention of three of JEROS' apprentices, who each decided to nominate JEROS for the 2024 Apprenticeship Award.

However, it is the nomination from the newly qualified industrial technician - 31-year-old Ricki Rasmussen - that makes the difference. Ricki's nomination of JEROS for the 2024 Apprenticeship Award officially triggers the 3rd award in the series.

What does JEROS do to be a sound apprenticeship?

This is one of the questions Ricki has answered in his nomination with the words:

"Everyone in the company sees management leading the way regarding training apprentices. They have significant commitment and drive - and they're fearless in taking on apprentices who are over 25 years old.

JEROS prioritizes training adult apprentices. I appreciate that JEROS doesn't see an adult apprentice as a challenge but rather as an advantage that I have a little more life experience to offer because of my age.

Finding an apprenticeship as an industrial technician has not been easy for me. I am a trained carpenter and pedagogical assistant, but when I decided to pursue my dream of becoming an industrial technician, I was met with a wall of rejection.

I went to several interviews, and I was told no as soon as they heard how old I was. Some of them told me that they had experienced problems with adult apprentices because they found it challenging to be trained by apprentices who were younger than themselves—others didn't even give a reason.

I almost gave up hope of an apprenticeship when I applied to JEROS. My age was definitely not a problem here, and the company's culture is also such that everyone helps everyone regardless of age."

JEROS wins the 2024 Apprenticeship Award in the Region of Southern Denmark:

Co-determination and professional development are high priorities!

"I'm thrilled that I get to learn everything I want!" Ricki points out and continues:

"At JEROS, it's clear that management allocates resources so that we apprentices can learn as much as possible. And I'm pleased that we are responsible for our learning and tasks.

At the same time, we are not thrown further out than we can sink. This makes JEROS a sound apprenticeship," Ricki explains, while pointing out that he has also spent a lot of energy putting into words what JEROS does to promote an excellent social environment and adding what Ricki believes JEROS does particularly well in terms of professional development:

"JEROS works hard to highlight our craft education programs. I'm often a participant when JEROS actively involves us in children's and young people's future choice of education with initiatives like the Confederation of Danish Industry apprenticeship initiative.

The fact that we have our apprenticeship coordinator, Paw Schack, who often has conversations with all apprentices, is also perfect in terms of professional development. Paw is very keen for us to talk about what's going well and what might be going less well while we find out how we can work together to improve or change processes.

Paw is good at listening and ensuring that all apprentices can learn more about things we want to work with. In this way, we get a lot of responsibility and co-determination for our education," concludes a happy and proud nominator (and co-winner) of the Apprenticeship Award 2024.

Line Stentoft Andersen presented the 2024 Apprenticeship Award in the Region of Southern Denmark from the Apprenticeship Community of the Confederation of Danish Industry. And, of course, Evita immediately passed on the praise to all JEROS employees for their outstanding dedication and for the joint effort it is to train apprentices and students:

"THANK YOU all so much for allowing us to train you! And THANK YOU to Lykke, Simon, and Ricki for nominating JEROS for the 2024 Apprenticeship Award! Your words of appreciation are incredibly heartwarming.

I would also like to thank DI Fyn and the Apprenticeship Community of the Confederation of Danish Industry, and your jury for pointing to Ricki's nomination of JEROS for the 2024 Apprenticeship Award, and the entire Team JEROS for consistently creating a belief in the future of the education of our many apprentices and students, and for always prioritizing and supporting the many initiatives we put together to spread the knowledge of our vocational education.

Furthermore, I would like to thank our apprenticeship coordinator, Paw Schack, for your enormous commitment to our apprentices' education. We know - and they know - that you always take the lead and ensure their professional development is as exciting and rewarding as possible throughout their time with us.

You certainly help make them all better versions of themselves," concludes a proud Evita Rosdahl.
